Raised in the Bay Area and based in Denver, Ham I Am makes sample-driven alternative hip-hop where pop instincts intersect with gangster rap and Bay Area bounce. He cites Pharrell Williams, Kanye West, Timbaland, and 9th Wonder as inspirations, but always aspires to present something new and topical in his sound. While the records bang hard in classic rap styling, he leaves the usual hip-hop machismo at the door, preferring room for introspection around love, passion, failure, and the sometimes winding pursuit of happiness. For Ham, music is a personal time capsule and a window into the life of a flawed but decent human trying his best to find himself.
